Princess Castle

For Christmas Lena wanted a princess doll castle.  When I looked into buying it I was surprised by how much it cost and then when I read reviews that all said the pieces break pretty easily, I was not too excited to buy it.  So I decided to make one myself.  I bought this bookcase at the thrift store and turned it into a doll castle.  I had a lot of fun doing it and Lena absolutely loves it.  Just don't tell her that mommy made it because you know she asked Santa for it.

More metal stamping

I decided to try some more metal stamping so I made this necklace for my mother-in-law for Christmas.  It has her and my father-in-law's names in the middle and all their kids around the outside.  I didn't take into account that some of their names are longer than others so some of them are too squished, but hey I'm learning, right?  Other than that, I think it turned out pretty good.

Family Home Evening Boards

I made a few family home evening boards for my siblings' families for Christmas this year.  It didn't turn out exactly how I had planned but I think they turned out pretty good.  I just painted the board and hammered some nails into it.  Then I stamped metal washers with the family members' names.

Halloween Costumes

For Halloween costumes this year we went with a Wreck-It Ralph theme because Thayne's favorite movie is Wreck-It Ralph and we just love the characters.  Our kids totally fit the parts.  Thayne was Wreck-It Ralph, Lena was Vanellope, and Landon was Fix-It Felix.

Aaron and I kind of went with the theme because we were arcade game characters and they were in the movie for a second.  Anyway, we were pac man and a pac man ghost. We had a lot of fun with the costumes this year. I love Halloween.

Halloween clothes

I always love doing these kinds of holiday clothes for the kids and they had plenty of opportunities to wear them this year because there are so many fun Halloween activities.

Halloween food

We had a fun little Halloween get together and this was some of the food, banana mummies, pumpkin oranges, ghost lollipops, chocolate drizzled pretzels, cupcakes, etc.  Simple and fun!

And I had way too much fun doing snack for preschool, bats, pumpkins, and mummies.

Lena's room

Lena's room has been a work in progress for a while now.  A few years ago we bought this bed frame for when she got older.  But it was black and hard. And I wanted Lena's room to be soft and bright.  So I painted it white.  It was a royal pain to paint, I don't want to do that again.  Then I got a bunch of shiny white tulle and created a canopy.  I think every little girl should have a canopy bed. It is a butterfly princess room.  Lena and I love it! I am tempted to sleep in Lena's room, but my mattress is better.  haha

Throw pillows

I've been wanting to add more throw pillows to my couches for a long time, but just never got around to it.  I've had the pillow forms sitting by my sewing machine so yesterday I finally pulled out my fabric and chose some that I liked.  Then I looked on pinterest for diy throw pillow ideas and I came across this.  I wanted something a little more interesting and textured for a couple of them. I love this look and it was super easy to do.

hold on handles

I've seen things similar to these but they are so expensive to buy.  So I came up with my own version.  The idea is to have something your kids can hold onto when you need your hands for something else so they don't wander off.  We've used them a few times and they work pretty well.  I'm glad I didn't spend the big bucks to buy any though because we don't use them very often.  It has been nice at amusement parks, zoos, and other big crowded places like that.

Family Silhouette

You may remember I made a family silhouette a couple years ago and framed it for my baby's room and also used it to make some family t-shirts.

Well, I made an updated version.  I think I may do the family t-shirts again.  Or maybe something else.  I just like it. :)

Baby gift

My brother and his wife are going to have a baby girl in a couple of months.  So I got to make a baby gift for them.  I made a blanket and bib.  The chevron pattern is made from triangles.  This was my first attempt at it, so it is not perfect, but I learned a lot.  :)  And I think it is cute.  I can't wait to meet the little cutie they put in it.

Amazing Race

I put together an amazing race game for my family reunion it included route cards, detours and roadblocks all around my parents house and yard.  It turned out pretty fun.

Sewing for myself

I haven't made much for myself recently because it just isn't as fun as it was when I was thinner. But I love all the knits and maxi skirts and dresses that have been popular lately.  And I am a big fan of stripes.  So I bought a bunch of striped knits and made a dress and a skirt.  I have plans to make another dress and a shirt.  I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Chocolate Butterflies and YW Temple "Tea" Party

I saw this pinned on Pinterest  and thought it was genius.  So when my MiaMaids decided to have a little "tea" party up by the temple I thought it was a good opportunity to try it out.

My version is not as intricate, but I was able to do them quickly and they turned out really pretty.  The girls like them too.  I made little sandwiches with flower and butterfly cookie cutters and strawberry cream cheese.  We had fruit and cookies and pink lemonade. It was really fun.

I love these girls!  We chatted and planned and enjoyed the view of the temple.

And it was a great view for watching the sunset.

Construction/Dump Truck 2 year old Birthday

For my little man's birthday I did a construction/dump truck theme.  First I made him a birthday shirt.  I cut out the image of a truck on a piece of cardstock, then set it on the shirt while I sprayed fabric spray paint on and around it.  It was super easy, but I think it was perfect for the look I wanted.

For his cake I just did a chocolate circle cake with chocolate frosting.  Then I used crushed oreos and Heath bits as dirt and some little toy construction trucks on top.  I really love the way it turned out.

Since he is turning two I didn't throw a huge, full blown party, but we did have a couple friends come over for a playdate.  I set out some of Thayne's favorite snacks and fun themed names for them.  They had some sticker sheets they could do, but mostly just played in the dirt. :)
